Name: Perion Eneas
Canon: Original
Original or Alternate Universe: N/A
Canon Point: About a week after her move to Arizona to start her new life at the funeral home. There's irony in there somewhere if you look hard enough.
Number: RNG me, baby.

Setting:
Perion's world is ours. All world events are the same, etc, etc. Her story line takes place in the present, 2013, and there are no major differences (with the exception of name changing of media to avoid fourth walling.) Just normal people, doing normal things, with normal lives.

History:
Perion was an accident. Sam and Daphne were high school sweethearts, just starting college, when -- oops -- they ended up expecting. It wasn't so much a happy miracle as it was a complete disaster at the time, but the two resigned to do what they had to do. Both dropped out of school, Perion's father going to work as a car mechanic while her mother got a job at a flower shop. It wasn't perfect, but with their new baby and their dinky flat on the west side of Chicago, the two did their best to make it work.

Around the time she turned six, their marriage took a turn for the worse and the two split up. Sam moved on, only sending child support checks and the occasional card for Perion's birthday, viewing the child as the source for the relationship turning sour. In her early teenage years, he stopped contacting the two of them, period, and had remarried.

Perion was devastated, not understanding why her father was no longer around, and it was one of the many events that helped to shape her personality later down the line. Daphne, in the meantime, continued to work as hard as she could to keep a roof over her and her daughter's head. Over the next few years, she put more time into the flower shop, working her way up until the two of them could live as comfortably as possible on that kind of salary.

Despite her home life being strained, Perion grew up as a bright child. She had an interest in biology and science all throughout school, claiming to want to be a doctor when she grew up. Her mother helped to foster this in her, getting her books, information, and doing what she could to make her daughter's dreams come true. It was no surprise that when Perion finally graduated from high school, she did go on to study to become a doctor. Things were great, life was good, and it was only going to get better from here on out, she kept telling herself.

That was when she met her future husband.

She met him through some mutual friends, a business major at one of the other local colleges. Greyson was charming, smart, handsome, and Perion was completely smitten. It took months of pining before they finally went out and it was a few years later that the question was popped and they had gotten hitched. It was not long after that, that she started her internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital working in internal medicine. After a year of working there, she and her husband decided to try to start a family and that was when Perion was met with a dilemma: continue the long hours at the hospital or have a kid.

In the end, she switched over to nursing as a compromise; she would still be able to keep her dream of working in medicine while being able to juggle more of a family life. Again, things seemed to be perfect and that was when it came crashing down.

Greyson was leading a double life. There was what he had with Perion and the rest of his friends -- the charming family man -- and then what he had in his side venture: drug dealing. And he was quite good at it, too. Perion was oblivious, believe that the money that he earned was through his high paying job as a business CEO. Toward the end, there were little things that had started to tip her off that all was not well in paradise: strange phone calls, the finding of an extra bank account, things like that.

It wasn't until someone from a rival drug ring confronted them on a walk through a park one night that it all finally came to light and how not a nice person Greyson actually was. To him, marriage and a family was all just a front, after all, to make himself fit in. Perion packed her things and left, absolutely devastated.

Threats followed. Fearing for her safety, she eventually went to the police and a sting operation was put into place to bring Greyson down. While not a particularly vindictive person, if someone was going to take away everything from her, then Perion was going to return the favour. It wasn't exactly a safe move, though, and it landed her in the witness protection program under the fear of retaliation.

She was relocated from Chicago, Illinois to Gilbert, Arizona, and given a new name and identity. With her medical expertise, she was set up as an apprentice to a mortician in a funeral home. Not happy in the slightest, she resigned herself to her new life.

Personality:
Perion is very much an introvert. If she's given the choice of spending the night out with friends or curling up at home with a book, she'll choose the book each and every time. That doesn't mean that she doesn't enjoy spending time out with her friends because she does, but too much social stimuli will annoy her and make her cranky, which isn't fun for anyone involved. She keeps a small group of friends and likes it that way.

When it comes to being social at work, she manages just fine. Perion enjoys chatting with her patients, making them feel comfortable, and doing what she can to assist them. This does mean that it wipes out her social interaction quota for the day and she'll bum around the house by herself once her shift is over, but she doesn't mind; she's doing her job and what she can to make these poor sick people's lives just a little brighter. Oftentimes she'll wear a bright flower in her hair at work to make things seem less bleak, knowing that hospitals can often times be terrible places to be in. There isn't a job that she loves more. (Although if you do something stupid to end up in the medbay multiple times, she will let you know what a dumbass she thinks you are.)

Perion is also very much a creature of habit. She has a routine that she follows and enjoys it. It may be the same day in and day out, but it establishes order in her hectic life and helps keep her focused. This is something that Greyson used to like to mess with, often surprising her at work with roses or the offer to go to lunch out of the blue, just to ruffle her feathers. While it does annoy her, when it comes to people she loves she can deal with it, enjoying the displays of affection (despite her protesting.) When it comes to her job, as things can be a near constant surprise in the medical field, she tries to take it one day at a time. While the people may be different, the injuries and situations soon become the same, and in that way she can deal with it.

However, when it comes to bigger things, she is resistant to change. A lot of it stems from the abandonment of her father of herself and her mother. Perion doesn't like big change. Big change usually means something bad (and this thought is only hammered in more after the split from her husband.) It took a few years after her marriage before deciding to even try for a child and it took a lot of soothing to ease her fears that something could be wrong with the future baby, the pregnancy, or any number of related things. It took a while to switch to being a nurse after the decision had been made, as well. When things happen suddenly and she has no time to adjust or think over the situation, then she'll often shut down and go into automatic until she can establish a new routine.

Life on the ship will be particularly tough on her in the beginning and it will take quite a while for her to adjust to the new surroundings, much less the fact that there are people from worlds over stuck on a freaking space ship. A space ship.

Given that it can take a while for her to come to decisions, Perion is often seen as analytical and that wouldn't be far off. She likes to weigh her options, think them over, and then go for it rather than making a spur of the moment decision.

Perion has a wariness about her that she didn't used to posses. Once upon a time, she was a happy and cheerful woman, but since Greyson's betrayal, the lies, and the double life, she doesn't initially trust people like she once did. New relationships are tackled with that same analytical demeanor and it takes her a while for her to warm up to anyone new. Still, she almost always waits for the other shoe to drop, for some sort of lie to come out, and is surprised when it doesn't happen. And if it does? Well, she's guarded in her emotions and she told herself so.

Still, if someone needs help, medical or otherwise, she won't turn them away. First do no harm and all that. While she won't be open with people about her past or feelings, that doesn't mean that she won't listen and do what she can, as she is genuinely kind-hearted. Once people break through all of the suck and the walls she's put up, they'll find a good person that's had to give up more than they feel they should in a single lifetime.

There's also still a part of her that clings to the past: the marriage, the family that never was, the thought of buying a house, the dreams she's had to give up, and all that good, normal stuff. She'll often hold onto 'tokens' (her old employee badge, wedding ring) as reminders of those things, knowing full well that it isn't healthy at all. One day, she'll overcome the need to have these things around and let go of the past, to start all over (which is hard, she finds, given her age) but that won't be any time soon.

This can also be seen in her hobbies and things that she likes. Jazz music is something that she enjoys, a remnant from when she was little and her father would come home, listening to jazz on the radio. Flowers play a theme as well, a reminder of her mother and time spent as a teenager working alongside her in the shop during the summer.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Knowledge
Medical
Having spent four years in pre-med, four years in med school, and doing a year internship at a hospital before eventually switching over to nursing, Perion is quite well versed in human anatomy and ailments. Broken bones? She's got you covered. Need something stitched? Let's get the needle. She deals more with the internal medicine side of things: diagnosing illnesses, and preventing and treating diseases. Considering the time she had switched over to nursing, she has never declared a specialty.

One of the bright sides to this is that she pretty much has an iron stomach when it comes to anything gross, so long as it's not the result of a violent situation.

Since her world is completely normal and there are no strange lifeforms, what she knows deals specifically with people. If you have weirdo alien squiggly bits, she is not the girl to go to (though she will try her best.) As time goes on, she will work to fix this and expand her knowledge, reading up on what she can get her hands on.

Flowers
Perion's mother is a florist and she's grown up around flowers all her life. As such, she knows a lot about them, specifically the meaning behind different types. She's also rather good at being able to arrange them artfully, having helped around the shop in her teenage years.

This is almost a completely useless thing to know about and won't help anyone in the long run, but you can tell a lot about her by the flowers she keeps around, oftentimes matching her mood. It's also a hobby and she likes it.

Personality
Adaptability / Change
As mentioned in her personality section, Perion is very married to having a routine. When it gets disrupted, it throws her off and can leave her flustered. Bigger change is even more frustrating for her, especially when it comes to the complete loss of her routine (being relocated in her world, her arrival on the Tranquility.) Perion will often find herself lost, unsure of what to do until she can reestablish some sort of normalcy and will keep to herself for the most part until that's done.

Bedside Manner
Perion is very good at her job and when it comes to her patients, despite her recent lapse into becoming more guarded, she's often very friendly and cheerful with them, doing what she can to make them comfortable. Nobody likes being in a hospital, so why make it worse with a shitty attitude? She does genuinely care for her patients, anyway.

Though she can be firm when it comes to ridiculous requests (come on, you don't need six jellos,) she does go out of her way to get to know the people in her care. The downside to caring so much, though, is that if she loses a patient, then it hits her just a little harder. Still, she wouldn't change her ways for the life of her.

Decision Making
As already mentioned, Perion takes her time when it comes to decisions. This is particularly helpful in the context of her job when it comes to diagnosing patients as she likes to explore all options and ideas before coming to a conclusion. There's no need for someone to suffer because she didn't weight all possibilities first.

More immediate decisions job-wise are a little tougher, but she comes through. The medical world can be fast paced when things go wrong and she knows has to stay on her toes or something bad can happen. While she would prefer more time, Perion will do what she can to make the best choice in a tough situation.

This is a double-edged sword, though, as when it comes to her personal life (coupled with her resistance to change,) Perion often drags her feet on a number of things.

Bravery
Perion is brave in her own way. She won't be the first person to go running into a battle -- the poor woman can't fight her way out of a wet paper bag -- and she's not particularly adventurous, but when it comes to the little day-to-day things she does what she feels she has to do.

She didn't have to turn Greyson in, but she did. That was a disruption to her entire way of life and while she could have just pretended that everything was wonderful or simply left him and taken the threats, she chose to put herself in harm's way and put him behind bars. Sometimes it's not the big, in your face rah-rah things, but the smaller things that matter.

Misc
Perion is 100% completely and totally human, and comes with all of the wonderful and fun limitations of being so. She posses no supernatural abilities or strengths and while not out of shape, probably won't be running a mile willingly or anything like that. There is nothing wrong with being, human, thank you, but she is very much a normal person in the physical sense.

Appearance:
PB: Azura Skye
Perion is fairly average looking: she's of average build for someone her age and is a little on the taller side, standing around 5'8''. Her eyes are a bright green and hair is blonde. She typically wears her hair down, though prefers to keep it pinned back and out of her face when working.

When it comes to clothing, Perion prefers to dress modestly as she doesn't like to stick out, staying with things like plain shirts or blouses and pants or trousers. There's often a floral theme to what she wears, either in pattern or embroidered design.

Log Sample:
It wasn't much of a surprise to her that the media libraries would be one of her favourite spots on the ship. There weren't many places that Perion bothered to go: her room, the medbay for work, and then here to lose herself in books. As a child, she spent many days in the summer practically living at the Chicago libraries, checking books out to take home with her and read under the blanket by flashlight. Not much had changed when she got older and she found solace in the familiarity.

The datapads were strange, but if she didn't think about it too hard (which was difficult to do) she could almost pretend that they were tablet reading devices from home. Still, she favoured a book that had been brought with her things: a book of various poems. It had been a wedding gift from her mother and she often paused to read the hand written inscription in neat, tidy scrawl on the inside cover. It always brought a smile to her face, even here.

The corner of the library she had chosen was a quiet one, often untouched. She always went out of her to this one, curled up in a chair, and lost herself in the book from home. Perion had read it so many times already that her mind would often drift about the fifth page in.

There were tales about people going home eventually, lost in the jumps (but did they really go or was that something they told themselves so they didn't worry about their friends?) and she often wondered if she would like that. What was there to go home to -- an apartment in Arizona and a job that she didn't enjoy? Sure, it put her knowledge to use, but she rarely dealt with anyone living beyond her co-workers.

She liked the quiet, yes, but there was a difference between the silence of death and the quiet of the living.

Here she could completely start over without fear of Greyson or any retaliation for turning him in. If anything, the other rival drug lords should thank, Perion thought to herself bitterly. Still, it wasn't like this place was paradise; the crew had gone missing, strange things had happened from the information she had gathered, and the vast amount of general abnormality overwhelmed her to levels she didn't think could ever be reached. There were even times she didn't like to be alone like this, just getting a sinking feeling from being by herself. It was all too different, too creepy in so many ways.

She rubbed at her brow absently, curling legs beneath her in the chair as she once again lost herself in thought.

Comms Sample:
[There's a moment of fumbling before Perion's frowning face pops up onto the screen. Things have been explained to her, but she's still pretty sure that this is a dream and any day now she'll wake up back in Arizona, tucked into her bed.

That would be really nice.]
Uh... Hello? Is this thing -- oh. [Yep, it's on. Okay, now that she's done making an idiot out of herself.]

I'm sorry, I don't really know what to say... Um. I'm Perion. I'm from Earth, if there's anyone else here that knows the planet. [Oh god, please let someone else here be from Earth.] I'm one of the new medical officers and I suppose if you have any questions concerning your health, you can direct them to me.

I really hope you'll all be okay, however. [That sounded kind of rude, oops. She adds:] Since we're all... here, I suppose.

I, er, look forward to spending time on the ship and getting to work with everyone.

[It's very clear by the look on her face that she doesn't. This is not okay, this is not okay, this is not okay.

With a pause and another frown, she awkwardly ends the feed there, lacking anything else to add.]
